What to check in a trading bot's monthly performance report
Checking a bot every day makes normal swings feel dramatic. Checking it never means problems go unnoticed. A monthly review is the middle ground. Here is what to look at, in what order, and a template to use each month.
Where to find the numbers
With CryptoBoost, log in to your dashboard at app.cryptoboost.trade to see every trade the bot has made and your results. Your Hyperliquid Portfolio page is the independent record to check it against: PnL, maximum drawdown, trade history, funding history, and deposits and withdrawals.
The ten-point monthly checklist
Results
- Start and end account value. Note both, for the first and last day of the month.
- Your own money movements. List deposits and withdrawals. They change the account value but are not performance.
- The month's return. Change in account value, minus deposits, plus withdrawals, as a percentage of the start value. Is it realised, or does it include open positions?
- The running total. Add the month to your results since you started. One month on its own says little. See how to read returns and drawdown.
Risk
- Maximum drawdown this month, and the current distance from your account's peak.
- Open positions at month end. Their size, direction and unrealised PnL. Large open positions mean the month's result could still change a lot.
- Anything outside the strategy. Markets the bot doesn't normally trade, unusually large positions, or much more trading than usual.
Costs and checks
- Fees and funding. Hyperliquid trading fees and funding for the month, plus your CryptoBoost bill: the trading profit it is based on and the 10% fee. The bill is calculated before Hyperliquid fees and funding, so it will not equal your profit after those costs. See how the fee is calculated.
- Cross-check with Hyperliquid. Spot-check a few trades and compare the month's profit with the change in account value. See how to verify fills and PnL.
- Compare with your plan. Is the account still above the risk limit you wrote down? Has anything changed in your own situation?
A template to reuse every month
Copy this into a note or spreadsheet and fill it in on the first day of each month:
| Item | Where to find it |
|---|---|
| Start / end account value | Hyperliquid Portfolio |
| Deposits / withdrawals | Hyperliquid → Deposits and Withdrawals |
| Month's return (%) | Calculated from the two rows above |
| Return since start (%) | Your running record |
| Max drawdown this month | Hyperliquid Portfolio (select the period) |
| Open positions at month end | Hyperliquid → Positions |
| Trading fees and funding | Hyperliquid → Trade History, Funding History |
| Monthly bill: trading profit it is based on, and the fee | CryptoBoost dashboard and email |
| Trades spot-checked (✓ / ✕) | CryptoBoost dashboard vs Hyperliquid |
| Above my risk limit? (yes / no) | Your written plan |
How to read a bad month
Losing months are normal for any trading strategy. The questions that matter are whether the loss is within the range you expected, whether the bot traded the way it is meant to, and whether you are still within your risk limit. If all three are yes, a bad month is information, not an emergency. If any is no, see when to pause or disconnect a trading bot.
And a good month
Review a strong month just as carefully. Check that the gain is realised rather than sitting in open positions, and don't let one good month change your allocation plan on its own. See how to set an allocation and risk limit.
Common questions
How often should I check my trading bot?
A full review once a month is enough for most people, with a quick look now and then for anything unusual. Checking daily tends to make normal short-term swings feel bigger than they are.
Why does my monthly return differ from my change in account value?
Usually because of your own deposits or withdrawals, open positions whose gains or losses are not yet realised, or a fee payment made from the account. Remove your own money movements first, then compare.
Where do I see my CryptoBoost results?
Log in to the CryptoBoost dashboard at app.cryptoboost.trade to see every trade and your results. Your Hyperliquid Portfolio page gives you an independent record to check them against.
What should I do after a losing month?
Check whether the loss is within the range you expected, whether the bot traded as it should, and whether you are still above the risk limit you set. If any of those is no, consider pausing and reviewing.
